I am certainly not the cheapest DJ in the area but many so-called “budget services”, often turning up with just a laptop and a pair of speakers with very little lighting, can be false economies, and in many cases the Resident DJs offered by some venues can lack motivation as they are only there either because they are cheaper than everyone else or they have to pay heavy commissions back to the venue, but clients would usually be charged a much higher fee (plus VAT). There's even one DJ Agency I know of that takes as much as 30% commission from their DJs and still doesn't guarantee the client that someone will show up on the day.
